Studio photography

This sitter is a Photography student, whom I met in the other group; he's a keen photographer, which is reflected in the background, as we're in the studio. The upper photo, which depicts his crossed hands, indicates his strong personality. At the same time, there is a slight smile on his face, which also reveals his cheerful disposition. White colour is a symbol of desire for living one's life to the full - the colour of the sitter's shirt definitely reflects this personal trait.

  1. You make some interesting comments here, you remind me why I find social workers so intimidating! I am not overly keen on the top image, I feel the shirt dominates the frame and pushed his head out of the main arena. The bottom image is much stronger, you have a much better balance between skin and shirt. Your exposures are, as always, excellent.

  2. In the first picture I agree that the shirt dominates the frame and pushed his head out of the main arena but I still think it's a relatively good image because I had to make one of the two choices: show a very big head or focus on his torso. It was a challenge for me to catch a pose which would hide these features.

    1. Sometimes it makes it easier to compose if you use a longer focal length lens to compress perspective slightly. This makes the shoulders look a little smaller and less dominant. Which lens did you use for these?

  3. I've used F1.8G, 35mm; I've figured that my other lens (kit lens) was too dark...

    1. That explains the top shot, your longer zoom would have been better, use it at its shortest, I can't remember if it is 50 or 75.
